In solemn and moving ceremonies, the USS Arizona Memorial was formally dedicated on the morning of Memorial Day, 1962. This was the culmination of a four-year campaign by the Pacific War Memorial Commission to enshrine the Arizona, the final resting place for over 1,177 crewmen killed on that fateful day in December 1941.

The Memorial was designed by Architect Alfred Preis and built by the Walker-Moody Construction Company. The image on the right of this page is of the nearly completed USS Arizona Memorial.
