RMNP entry view

Even though I was camped on the western boundary of RMNP there was no way to get in other than to drive the 80 mile trip down the mountain to Fort Collins, then south to Estes Park, CO, then up the winding road into the park. It’s overrun with tourists, of course. Most never see the remote areas of the park. Rocky Mountain National Park’s 415 square miles encompass and protect spectacular mountain environments. Enjoy Trail Ridge Road – which crests over 12,000 feet including many overlooks to experience the subalpine and alpine worlds – along with over 300 miles of hiking trails, wildflowers, wildlife, starry nights, and fun times. In a world of superlatives, Rocky is on top!

I took the road from Estes Park to the Visitors’ Center, then on to the west and south on US34. Awesome scenery and geology! A park map is included on this post.
