Masonic emblem. My dad was a Mason

My dad was a mason for many, many years. He was proud of his association with this fraternal organization and always hoped I would join. I am not much of a joiner I guess, and I never did. I can’t say anything from first hand knowledge about masons, except that most of my dad’s relatives were also members.

When my parents visited me in Washington, DC once, I took them to the George Washington Masonic National Memorial. It was as real treat for my dad.

I climbed up the Washington Monument once (when you still had access) and was amazed at the number of plaques in the interior wall of the monument provided by Masonic lodges. Much of the funding for the Monument came from Masons.
