This pin of Mickey Mouse comes from off the ship of a Disney Cruise. Mickey Mouse is a funny animal cartoon character and the official mascot of The Walt Disney Company. He was created by Walt Disney in 1928. An anthropomorphic mouse who typically wears red shorts, large yellow shoes, and white gloves, Mickey has become one of the most recognizable cartoon characters in the world.

Mickey first was seen in a single test screening (Plane Crazy). Mickey officially debuted in the short film Steamboat Willie (1928), one of the first sound cartoons. He went on to appear in over 130 films, including The Band Concert (1935), Brave Little Tailor (1938), and Fantasia (1940). Mickey appeared primarily in short films, but also occasionally in feature-length films. Nine of Mickey’s cartoons were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film, one of which, Lend a Paw, won the award in 1942. In 1978, Mickey became the first cartoon character to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Beginning in 1930, Mickey has also been featured extensively as a comic strip character. His self-titled newspaper strip, drawn primarily by Floyd Gottfredson, ran for 45 years. Mickey has also appeared in comic books and in television series such as The Mickey Mouse Club (1955–1996) and others. He also appears in other media such as video games as well as merchandising, and is a meetable character at the Disney parks.

Mickey generally appears alongside his girlfriend Minnie Mouse, his pet dog Pluto, his friends Donald Duck, and Goofy, and his nemesis Pete, among others (see Mickey Mouse universe). Originally characterized as a mischievous antihero, Mickey’s increasing popularity led to his being rebranded as an everyman, usually seen as a flawed, but adventurous hero.

Disney Cruise Line pin

Disney Cruise Line pin

The Caribbean is a great place for a cruise. Now I am no fan of Disney cruises or Carnival either, but, hey, this is the Caribbean. This pin features The main Disney characters: Goofy, Minnie Mouse, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Pluto. They are standing in front of the bow of the cruise ship under a perfect sunny sky.

In the Caribbean, you can find yourself lounging on a warm golden beach, exploring worlds beneath azure waters or strolling exotic marketplaces. Sightseeing is more my thing than shopping but they are both there to anyone’s heart’s content. The ship is classy, although it looks top heavy to me and I would not want to be on board when there was a storm. Which there was on this cruise. The ship was diverted to St. Croix to avoid a summer storm.

“The adventure begins with exceptional experiences onboard as you’re transported from one island to the next. Soak up the sun on the Grand Cayman’s Seven Mile Beach, find bargains on luxury goods in the Virgin Islands or immerse yourself in the rich blend of cultures of St. Maarten. The possibilities for real Caribbean bliss are endless.”

Well, I had rather be on the Queen Mary II.

This unusually large pin changes its picture owing to the reflected light. In one view it shows Donald Duck, Goofy, and Mickey Mouse. In the other view it shows . In another view it shows “The Twilight Zone: Tower of Terror.”

Don’t you just love those Disney Characters? So do I! That’s why I have so many Disney pins.

The Disney characters are a favorite everywhere. When I lived in China 1987-89 I noticed that on Sunday evening in Shanghai all the world stopped: whoever had a TV set would run a line all the way out into the street and a crowd would gather to watch The Mickey Mouse show.

Mickey Mouse has been through many design changes through the years. In his first cartoon Plane Crazy, Mickey had no gloves or shoes and his eyes were large black ovals. He first wore gloves when he sat down to play piano in the Opry House and by 1939 in The Pointer Mickey was shown with a pupil. Over the years Mickey’s body became rounder and his face more expressive. Through all of the changes though, Mickey has maintained his heartwarming personality that we’ve all come to love!

Pluto wasn’t always Mickey’s dog. He first appeared in The Chain Gang as one of the bloodhounds sent to look for Mickey, who had escaped from prison. Then in The Picnic, his second film role, he had a new name: Rover. Guess who he belonged to – Minnie! From that point on though, he was called Pluto and was Mickey’s dog and best friend.

Goofy made his first appearance in the 1932 classic, Mickey’s Revue. He’s had some name changes over the years, being called Dippy Dawg and Dippy the Goof before becoming known simply as Goofy, one of Mickey’s hilarious pals that we have all come to know and love.

Donald Duck was first seen in The Wise Little Hen back in 1934. He was a big hit with audiences and his popularity continued to increase until he eventually starred in 128 cartoons! That’s more than any other Disney character, even Mickey!
